After researching studio setups under $500 for a beginning audiobook narrator (me), I’ve come up with the following list. Any suggestions or adjustments? Will the audio signal be strong enough or would I need a preamp too? Am I missing any cables/adapters in the chain of equipment? Thanks in advance for everyone’s advice.

    Rode NT1-A
    mounted on
    Rode PSA-1
    and connected to
    Mogami 6′ XLR cable
    to
    Starlet Solo
    to
    Mogami 2′ XLR cable
    to
    XLR to USB-C adapter
    to laptop

Equipment is fine, good, very similar to what I have. You don’t need a pre-amp for the Rode, but you’ll want to definitely play with the gain.. I keep mine at 3 o’clock. But the second XLR cable is confusing me (what kind of laptop)?

You need the one XLR from mic to interface, then the interface plugs in via provided cord to USB port on your laptop. I know you may have to get an adapter for some MACS, but you don’t need a second XLR cable. The scarlet solo only has one XLR plug anyway.
